Of course it is a problem when male and female dogs live together. You have to be very careful that no non-wanted offspring gets 'produced'.

A sterilization is not advisable - a castration makes more sense. But there is no reason to castrate young male dogs just because of reasons of prevention concearning the health of the dogs. And also female dogs shouldn't get through this operation when they are too young...
